Molasses

Molasses is make from sugar cane or sugar beets. Sweet sorghum syrup is known in some parts of the United States as molasses but is not a true molasses.
In 1919, near Keany Square, Boston had a molasses disaster. Two million gallons of crude molasses burst from a tank and pushed it's way through the city. At least 21 people were killed and 150 people injured, and took a week to clean up. Boston residents claim that on hot days, the area still smells of molasses.
