Steam Boat Philly

John Fitch, born on January 21, 1743 in Windsor, Connecticut. In 1875 he was living in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, just outside of Philadelphia, where he started to work on building a steam powered boat. On August 22, 1787, on the Delaware river, the first successful trial run of his steam boat was held. In June 1790, Fitch had a steam boat ferrying passengers on round trips between Philadelphia and Burlington, NJ.
