National Lighthouse Day

On August 7, 1789, the Federal Government assumed the responsibility for building and operating our nation's lighthouses. Senator John Chafee of Rhode Island introduced a joint resolution in 1988 and National Lighthouse Day became law in 1988.
Most lighthouses will be open to the public today with activities for a fun filled day. A great lighthouse is at Cape May, NJ, and will have lots of family things to do today. Do you have a favorite lighthouse?

  1. I love light houses. There are more than I ever knew. I love the Cape Hatteras Light House. I found there are 6 operating light houses in just NC.
