We want out, so on November 9, 1989, the wall came down, the Berlin wall. On April 1, 1952, Soviet leader Joseph Stalin had ordered the open inner German border closed and a barbed wire fence was erected. Over the next few years, 1961, some says Nikita Khrushev, wanted a proper wall built, and on August 17 the first large blocks were put into place.

"Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall", was said by President Reagan on 12 June 1987, on the 750 th anniversary of Berlin. On November 9, 1989 the brave people of Berlin did just that and Berlin was reunited.
